Antiques and Family Heirlooms

Do you have a historic piece of furniture or cherished family heirloom you would like to preserve? Our craftsmen have many years of experience restoring antique furniture. They can restore your piece to its original beauty without compromising the historic value. In the restoration process, we use traditional techniques and historically correct materials such as hide glue, tacks, jute webbing, burlap, latex covered hair and cotton. We can refurbish the damaged fine wood frame to the correct finish by cleaning and applying a French polish or if necessary, by stripping the old finish and applying a new one.

We have many traditional and period fabric samples in our showroom to complete antique restorations. Because we want our clients to understand the restoration process, we will thoroughly examine your furniture and then explain what steps will be necessary to restore your valued piece of furniture.

You can depend on our meticulous attention to detail and old world craftsmanship to restore your antique upholstered furniture to its original beauty.

Restoration of antique upholstered furniture normally includes the following steps:

  • Removal of all fabric and padding leaving the bare frame
  • Tighten frame, re-glue and repair damaged joints
  • Clean and touch-up exposed finished wood frame
  • Rebuild seat foundation including replacement of webbing if necessary
  • Attach coil springs to webbing and apply 8-way hand ties to secure
  • Apply padding to seat using hypoallergenic materials
  • Apply new fabric
  • Finish with decorative nails or matching scroll gimp when called for
